Adapting to a changing landscape
The Acuris product development team were witnessing a growing trend in customer behaviour. Subscribers were no longer being constrained by a physical office or standard working hours; instead, they increasingly needed to access their financial news and intelligence from anywhere and at any time.
As a result of this feedback, Acuris launched a competitive process to identify an experienced and trusted partner to develop a mobile application that would help them adapt to the changing customer landscape.

Deep sector knowledge
Scott Logic had worked on a wide range of mobile application development projects for other financial services clients and had a deep understanding of users within the sector. These factors, combined with a strong user-focussed approach, made Scott Logic a natural fit to deliver this project.
The project kicked-off with our multidisciplinary Product Manager, UX, Test and Development team getting together with Acuris at their London offices to discuss collaborative ways of working. The teams settled on Trello, Slack and regular conference calls to quickly discuss ideas, raise issues and share knowledge.
The app was developed in short iterations, with regular releases to stakeholders through Test Flight, and incorporating the feedback into the next iteration of development. A lightweight agile approach which centred on Trello allowed our team and the client to clearly see progress and the current project status.
A mobile mindset
The Acuris app makes use of various device features, delivering tangible value beyond the standard email-based delivery of intelligence.
The app provides a single, cross-product view of intelligence from Mergermarket, Debtwire, Dealreporter, Wealthmonitor and Activistmonitor. This information is pushed to the device as soon as it is available.
Native push notifications are used to deliver intelligence when the app is offline, with background refresh fetching the data, allowing the user to read the information at a later date.
The team at Acuris were very keen to find out how and when their users were engaging with the app. The Scott Logic team therefore added detailed telemetry, allowing the facility to build a clear picture of the app’s usage.
